  13. STUDENT TIMETABLE • SEMESTER – school year divided into two five month segments • SEPTEMBER to JANUARY – enrol in four courses • FEBRUARY to JUNE – enrol in four more courses • Easier organization for students – same 4 courses every day • Humanities 8 is taken in both semesters

  14. STUDENT TIMETABLE • Because students receive each course everyday, absences should be avoided if at all possible ( like holidays and booked appointments ) • If absent for 3 days and probably will not return that week, please call the school to get homework • “Buddy Up” with someone in each class, so that if you miss a class, you can contact your buddy to find out what you missed

  15. SAMPLE GRADE 8 TIMETABLE

  16. J.N. BURNETT TIMETABLE EARLY CLASS: 7:05 - 8:15 WARNING BELL: 8:20

  17. EVALUATION AND REPORTING • Students earn their grade: A 86 – 100 C 60 - 66 B 73 – 85 C- 50 - 59 C+ 67 – 72 I 0 – 49 • INTERIM REPORTS – Oct. and Dec. ( at risk ) - March and May ( at risk ) • REPORT CARDS – November, February, April and June

  18. INVOLVEMENT • Get involved in teams, clubs, or student council • Be a volunteer, ex. scorekeeper at games • Listen to announcements or view the monitors around the school and go to the meetings—find out if you would like to join, if not try something new

  19. SHIFT OF RESPONSIBILITY • Not like elementary where Grade 7 teachers closely monitor you. Books and lockers – personal property • Now you must take control of your learning: do HOMEWORK, go for extra help, study for a quiz or test, learn to manage your time, etc. • Organize all your work – pages are dated and in sequence. Share with your parents what you are learning and doing at school. • Grade 8 students should do about ONE HOUR of homework each night
