Monday November 4thJB #20 Explain what you think about the Einstein quote on how to raise intelligent children. • Objectives: 1) introduce new vocab words 2) discuss the AoW and share meaningful connections 3) practice identifying the meaning of the vocab through its contextual use 4) assign practice of vocab for quiz prep 5) assess answers to MC practice 6) interpret results of MC • I can • Share my AoWeekend through SSD process on the next slide • Copy and make guesses about the New vocab due next week Monday in a quiz • Go over the Mc answers – then do the analysis for it • Do works cited practice #2 for tomorrow

SSD AoWeekend • Exchange AoWeekend short response with someone else • Read the other person’s response – create 3 questions about his/her response • Give it back to the author • Answer the 3 questions in 5 or more sentence for each one • Give it back to the questioner • Read all the responses, select one and write 2 questions to the response • Give it back to the author • Write an answer to each question – each answer must be 5 sentences • Share with the questioner • Hand in your exchange with your AoWeekend

Guesses based on context • In an effort to curtail PDA at the high school, a new dress code was established where all students had to wear “kissers” from Dutch costumes so that if anyone tried to lean in close for a kiss, he or she would swiftly have his or her eyes poked out! • OR • In order to curtail spending, she religiously clips coupons and scours the Sunday paper for good sales. • Her concerns are so frivolous that when we were asked to brainstorm area problems we could address, she actually suggested that we could schedule appointments to have our hair highlighted since we were all looking rather drab and unattractive. • OR • Because she has everything anyone could imagine, we buy her frivolous items for her birthday— perfume, cds, DVDs. • I meant to make an innocuous remark, but the way the media has leapt on it, branding me a “hate-monger,” it seems my remark was anything but innocuous. • His scintillating wit always makes him the most popular guest at parties; everyone tries to put his or her name card next to his at the dinner table. • His temerity in accelerating on the curves of the raceway made his wife turn away in fear but earned him a first place finish.

Tuesday November 5thJB #21 What are the qualities that make for a great president? • Objectives: 1) assess how well works cited is being completed 2) identify the differences between APA and MLA format for sources 3) explain how arguments are structure 4) define claims, warrants and data 5) practice using claims, warrants and data in research 6) to narrow the focus and form a thesis • I can accomplish the following objectives: • Answers to works cited 2 the difference in APA style, then answers • Take notes on “Claim warrant data” handout • Make meaning of claims, warrants and data in writing my synthesis paper • Write 3 sample claims based on my research, then connect with data, then join with warrants to create a working thesis – see example on next slide

Why/why not? • Objectives: 1) provide feedback to peer thesis 2) share my thesis and get more ideas on it from others 3) understand what an annotated bibliography is 4) make an annotated bibliography of my working thesis 5) continue my research • I can: • Share my pre-theses/ideas with my writing group • Do a protocol on the shared theses • Hand in my pre-theses/ideas • Understand what an annotated bibliography is and I can have an Annotated bib. due Friday • Go to Lab 122 – to continue work on my synthesis paper • Meet with Mr. Norton about my thesis

Thursday November 7thJB #23 If the government could improve something about our society what would you suggest it be? • Objectives: 1) answer any questions about annotated bibliographies 2) meet about direction of research and thesis 3) start drafting for rough draft • I can • Ask about the Annotated bib and have it ready to turn in tomorrow • Go to Lab 122 – continue to meet about thesis • Finish my research – I can have enough so as to Start drafting my paper – my rough draft is due in 12 days!

Friday November 8thJB #24 FWF (8 minutes) • Objectives: 1) practice writing creatively and in timed discipline 2) reminded of vocab quiz on Monday 3) assess the completion and comprehension of an annotated bibliography 4) how to do an outline 5) outline ideas on research topic 6) continue synthesis process • I can • Be prepared for the Vocab quiz on Monday and have my practice completed • Write up three pre-theses as per claim, data, warrant instructions • Understand how to do an Annotated bib due Tuesday • Go to Lab 502 and continue developing my synthesis paper/start annotated bibliography
