  2. What was the Congress of Vienna • The peace conference held after Napoleon’s final defeat at Waterloo • Needed in order to put together new governments and new borders in those areas conquered by Napoleon

  3. Where was it held? • Vienna, Austria • Who dominated it? • Prince Metternich of Austria

  4. What was Metternich’s goal? • To return Europe back to the way it was before the French Revolution • Disliked democracies and liked absolute monarchies

  5. What are the new political philosophies at the Congress of Vienna? • Liberal—supported liberty and democracy • Conservative—supported monarchy and absolutism • Radical—wants violent change • Reactionary—wants things to return to the way it used to be
