  2. Seismic activity • Referring to earthquakes and volcanoes.

  3. tsunami • An immense ocean wave created when an earthquake occurs under or near an ocean causing massive destruction.

  4. El nino/ la nina • Periodic warming of the Pacific Ocean’s surface causing heavy rains in some areas and droughts in others.

  5. Climate change • Changes in the Earth’s climate such as the warming of the Earth caused by humans and their use of fossil fuels contributing to the Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming.

  6. Renewable resources • Resources that can be used again or will renew themselves over a period of time.

  7. Non-renewable resources • Resources that can only be used once and may contribute to climate change, like the use of fossil fuels.

  8. biodiversity • The diversity or amounts of different plants and animals.

  9. gis • Graphic Information Systems (GIS) are spatial information systems that merge information from satellites and land-based sources.

  10. Sustainable development • Using resources in a way that can meet future as well as present human needs.
