This poster explores the evolution of DICOM by applying n-gram analysis to Correction Proposals, identifying patterns and visualizing trends. Utilizing 1294 Correction Proposals, the study reveals insights into the DICOM standard changes over time. Through Wordle visualizations and examination of specific DICOM Parts, the research aims to provide valuable insights for the medical imaging community.

Inspired by … • Google Books N gram Viewer project http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5l4cA8zSreQ – TED video on the same. • Paper in ACM – Applying n gram analysis on communications • http://cacm.acm.org/magazines/2012/5/148618-an-n-gram-analysis-of-communications-2000-2010/fulltext
Idea for the POSTER … • The DICOM Correction Proposals capture the details of the changes in the different parts of the standard. • Idea is to Study the evolution in DICOM by applying n gram analysis on the Correction Proposals & thus identify patterns & visualize trends.
Inputs • 1294 Correction proposals • 1069 excluding cancelled proposals • Information from the DICOM standard’s page

DICOM Parts vs Correction Proposals • Maximum no of correction proposals – Part 3 • Zero correction proposals on Parts 9, 13, 20 ( Part 9 & 13 - retired & Part 20 is relatively new)
Correction proposals on Part 3over the years Year 2008 has seen lot of changes on Part 3. Could be because of introduction of some new concept, yet to find out.
