Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation - With Annotations of Mastery in: *Math *Science *Math & Science - With an affixed Technical Endorsement from a career & technical education program at BOCES 2. Regents Diploma - With an affixed Technical Endorsement from a career and technical education program at BOCES 3. Local Diploma (available only to students with disabilities)

What do I need to Graduate? • 4 Credits of English *ELA Regents Exam 65+ (55+ for Local Diploma) • 4 Credits in Social Studies *Global History and US History Regents Exams 65+ (score options for Local Diploma) There are new Pathway options for students that have difficulty meeting one of the Social Studies Regents Exam requirements. Counselors will work with individuals who may need a Pathway option to graduate. • 3 Credits in Science (1 must be Physical and 1 Life) *1 Regents Exam 65+ for Regents (score options for Local Diploma) *2 Regents Exam 65+ (1 Physical & 1 Life ) for Adv. Regents *3 Regents Exam 85+ for Advanced with Mastery in Science • 3 Credits in Math *Algebra Regents Exam 65+ for Regents (55+ for Local) *Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 & Trig (or Algebra 2) Regents Exams 65+ for Adv. Regents *3 Regents Exams 85+ for Advanced with Mastery in Math

What do I need to Graduate (con’t)? • 1 Credit in World Language for Regents or Local diploma • 3 Credits in one World Language and pass the Checkpoint B Exam for Advanced Regents diploma (Students may substitute a 5-unit sequence in Art OR Music for this requirement, but still must earn 1 credit of a World Language) • 1 Credit in Art or Music, or a combination of both • 1/2 Credit Health • 1/2 Credit Computer Applications • 2 Credits of PE (must take PE each semester) • 1-3 Credits of elective coursework Total Credits to Graduate: 22

Transcripts and Credits • Beginning at the Junior High School, all credit-bearing course work is recorded on the student’s permanent transcript and becomes a part of the student’s cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). • Students must earn a minimum of 5 credits to move from the Junior High to the Senior High School.

AP Courses • AP stands for Advanced Placement • AP courses are college level courses taught in high school, followed by an exam in May • Exams are scored 1 through 5 • Exam cost this year is $91 • Students taking multiple tests pay a maximum of $182 (2 tests) for 2014 - 2015 school year What is expected of AP students? What are the benefits of taking AP courses?

  11. DUAL CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES • Dual credit courses allow students to take courses at New Hartford while offering them the opportunity to also earn college credits. We currently offer dual credit through 3 colleges -- MVCC, SUNY Albany, and RIT. • Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) • Next school year we will have at least 7 courses that have dual credit through MVCC. There is no charge from MVCC to earn the credits. • Algebra 2 & Trig Topics * General Drawing • Elementary Statistics * Accounting • Pre-calculus * Intro. To Business • Mandarin 1 • Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) • We offer 4 courses that have dual credit through RIT. Students must pay RIT for the credits within a certain time from completing the course with the required course grade and final RIT exam grade. • PLTW Design & Drawing for Production (DDP) • PLTW Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) • PLTW Digital Electronics (DE) • PLTW Principles of Engineering (POE) • SUNY Albany • Qualifying students taking Latin 4 can earn credit through SUNY Albany. Students must complete a SUNY registration form and pay SUNY at the beginning of the course.

PHYSICAL EDUCATIONand HEALTH • 1/2 credit of Health (taken during 9-12 grade) is required to graduate • 2 credits of Physical Education, taken over four years of high school, is required to graduate • P.E. must be taken during each year of high school • If you are not able to participate in P.E. due to a medical condition, you must report to P.E. and complete a class packet(s)

  13. MUSIC • 1 credit of Art/Music is required to graduate • What we offer: Symphonic Band Choir Chorale Orchestra Theater (grades 10 - 12) Music Theory

ART • 1 credit of Art/Music is required to graduate • Studio Art is a prerequisite for most classes • Courses Offered: • Studio Art 1 & 2 (offered at Jr. & Sr. High Schools) • Computer Art (Jr. High only) • Digital Photography (grades 10 - 12) • Drawing (grades 10 - 12) • General Drawing (grades 11 -12; MVCC dual credit course) • Painting (grades 10 -12) • Ceramics 1, 2, & 3 (grades 10 -12) • Advanced Art - Photo (grades 11 & 12) • Advanced Art - Drawing & Painting (grades 11 & 12)

Business, Technology and PLTW • Computer Applications is required to graduate • Courses - check-out those that satisfy math, science and art credits • Accounting (grades 10-12, dual credit with MVCC) • Intro. Two year programs are: Advertising & Design/Multimedia Auto Body Repair Automotive Technology Emerging Tech & Cyber Sec Conservation Construction Trades Cosmetology Criminal Justice Culinary Arts Early Childhood Education Electricity Outdoor Power Equipment Welding One year programs are: Animal Science STEM Exploration Certified Nurse Assistant New Visions (NV) – Senior Year only NV Business Mgmt NV Communications NV Education NV Engineering NV Health Professions NV Legal Professions NV Performing Arts NV Veterinary Sci NV Nanotechnology Career & Technical Education at BOCES Students can participate in CTE courses at BOCES starting in Grade 11. Some programs are 1-year while others are 2-year programs. All the CTE courses are 1/2 day at New Hartford (AM or PM) and 1/2 day at BOCES (AM or PM). P-Tech: new program for students entering grade 9 BOCES Open House: March 11, 2015 6 -8pm

WORLD LANGUAGES • 1 credit required for a Regents Diploma • 3 credits and the Checkpoint B exam for a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation • What do many four-year colleges prefer? *3 or more years of study in the same language • Consider taking another language • Courses with low number of requests may not run

WORLD LANGUAGES, continued What we offer: • French Jr. High only: Levels 1B, 2 Sr. High: Levels 1-2, 2, 3, 4, AP French Language • Latin Jr. High only: Levels 1B & 2 Sr. High only: Levels 3 & 4 • Spanish Jr. High: Levels 1B, 2, 3, 4 Sr. High: Levels 1, 2, 3, 4, AP Spanish Language • Mandarin Sr. High only: Levels 1 & 2 (only for students having passed the Checkpoint B exam in another world language)

MATH • 3 credits required for graduation • Algebra Regents exam for a Regents Diploma • Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2/Trigonometry (or Algebra 2) Regents exams for a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation • To earn an Advanced Designation Diploma with Annotation of Mastery in Math, students need 3 Regents exams with scores of 85 or higher • What do colleges prefer? • As much math as you can take • Math every year of high school

SCIENCE • 3 credits required for graduation • 1 credit in life science • 1 credit in physical science • 1 additional credit from any of the sciences • 1 Regents exam is required for a Regents Diploma • 2 Regents exams are required for a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation • To earn an Advanced Designation Diploma with Annotation of Mastery in Science, students need 3 Regents exams with scores of 85 or higher • Be aware of course prerequisites and recommendations

SOCIAL STUDIES • 4 credits required for graduation *Global 1 *Global 2 *US History *Government/Economics • Regents exams at the end of Global 2 and US History • Students are selected to participate in Global 1 Honors (90+ in social studies 8) • Open enrollment at the Senior High School • AP Courses are offered in grades 10-12 • Elective courses offered in: • Psychology • AP Psychology (grades 11 & 12) • Exploring Humanitarian Law (grades 11 & 12)

ENGLISH • 4 credits required for graduation • Regents Exam at end of English 11 • Starting with the Class of 2017, students must have a passing Research Paper grade in order to be able to sit for the Regents Exam. Students will complete research papers in 10th and 11th grade. • Students are selected to participate in English 9 Honors (90+ in English 8) • Open enrollment at the Senior High School • Honors courses offered in grades 9 and 10 • AP courses offered in grades 11 and 12 • Students should take Honors or AP courses in English who… • are currently doing well in English • love to read and write • are looking for a challenge Elective Course: Journalism

  26. What a High School Schedule Might Look LikeThere are 4-blocks per day that are 80-minutes long. Everyone has lunch at 10:40am. Credit is issued at the end of each semester. Students taking courses that meet all year will still get a final grade and credit awarded at the end of each semester.

  27. A few more points… • Is your son or daughter taking AP Bio Prep Honors or an AP course? If so, you may want to consider having him/her take an SAT Subject test in May or June. Register at sat.collegeboard.org/register • Please make sure we have up-to-date email addresses for each parent. Pertinent school information is sent this way.
