Ombudsman Program • Ombudsmans Role • A volunteer, appointed by the commanding officer • Serves as an information link between command leadership and its families • Disseminates information both up and down the chain of command • Provide resources referrals when needed • They are instrumental in resolving family issues before they require extensive command attention.

  4. CO requirements • OPNAVINST 1750.1G requires COs to • Provide access to an Ombudsman • Establish communication plan with Ombudsman • Provide command roster • Include Ombudsman in disaster plans

  5. CO Requirements cont. • Other CO Requirements • Ensure Ombudsman is trained • Ensure Ombudsman Monthly Worksheet is completed for command • Update information in Ombudsman Registry

OPNAVINST 1750.F) • Information on Ombudsman Basic Training • Introduce Ombudsman to Command Support Team

  7. Recruitment • Recruit Ombudsman • Active duty/selected reserve spouse • Navy lifestyle experience • Time/energy for position • Mature/flexible/patient • Good communicator • The performance of the Command Ombudsman reflects • directly on the command.

within 6 weeks of appointment • Assembly meetings • Advanced Training • CST encouraged to attend • Initial and ongoing training are essential for a • command ombudsman to be effective!
