  • One-fourth report no physical activity.

  • At age 10, 1 in 6 children are showing signs of heart disease.
  • Lack of physical activity is attributed to rising childhood obesity.
  • Students watch 27 hours of television, and participate in 13 hours of physical activity each week.

  • Help children to be more alert and energetic, which improves their capacity to learn.

  • Helps youth (and adults) handle stress.
  • Build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints.

12 Week Curriculum

  • Step 1: One Week

(Teacher Directed)

  • Step 2: Three Weeks (Teacher Directed)
  • Step 3: Eight Weeks (Student Directed)

  • Teachers schedule 10-15 minute activity periods
  • Prompt students to move
  • Teachers utilize free activity kit
  • Navajo County will conduct one activity break with each class
step 2 teacher directed activity 3 weeks
Step 2: Teacher Directed Activity3 Weeks
  • Schedule 10-15 minute activity periods
  • Utilize the Game Book to teach games or activities each week
  • Assure all students are participating
  • Navajo County will conduct one activity break with each class

Step 2: Teacher Activity Kit
  • As a student incentive:
  • Navajo County will purchase a parachute for the grade levels that participate in the PLAY program,
  • if 70% of the total PLAY participants receive a PALA award.
  • PLAY Game Book
  • Beach ball (1 large and 1 small size)
  • 5 hacky sacks
  • 6 jump ropes)
  • 5 hacky sacks inside of tube socks
  • Whistle
  • 1 Ball
  • Balloons
  • Tube socks
step 3 student directed 8 weeks
Step 3: Student Directed 8 Weeks

Played basketball for 60 minutes.

  • Navajo County will visit to explain to students how to record their physical activities.
  • During that visit we will discuss tips on how to eat healthy.
  • Finally, we will conclude the program & collect all Student Activity Logs.

Walked the dog for 30 minutes.
