    2. Values in Teaching With Reference to Teaching Novel By: Lect. Dr. Wiaam Abdul-Wahab Taha

    3. Down through history, namely, in the fifties, there was a big tumult against educators because of the fact that Johney can't read. In addition to the fact that Johney still can't read, we are now faced with the more serious problem that He can't tell right from wrong.

    4. Every individual has his own values that distinguish him as a unique human being and this leads to the management of interpersonal and intergroup relations.

    5. Defining Value "Value" is one of the controversial words whose meaning, like other such words "science", "religion" ,"morality", and "philosophy", is multiple and complex. they are, in fact, a permanent topic of every time and place.

    6. Definition of Values Values are those things that really matter to each of us ... the ideas and beliefs we hold as special. Caring for others, for example, is a value; so is the freedom to express our opinions. Every desirable or required object, concept, or aim a textbook attempts to consolidate and make it a commonly practiced behaviour.

    7. Significance of Values Values are essential concepts in human life since they motivate and limit human behaviours. Values are discovered, derived, developed, recognized, and accepted as a category of the outcomes of, perhaps the most significant, learning experience. Learning values is an integral part of the whole process of social interaction and personality development that distinguish people in a society.

    8. 4. The establishment of values is important for an individual, it is absolutely vital for the survival of a society; a survival that depends on its members being motivated in quite specific patterns of behaviour. 5. Moreover, these values stand at the very core of human social life, groups and societies which give each society its distinct character.

    9. Teaching Novel Teaching a foreign language is hard work, but hard work will nearly always bring success. The content of textbooks reflects the educators' attempt to transmit values beside the information on the subject matter. Novel, in turn, plays a key role in the whole teaching/learning process. Being studied in line with the aims and philosophy of the society, it represents a means for a further end. Educators recognize that young people develop physically, mentally, socially - and ethically - at different rates.

    10. Positive Values in Teaching Novel Young people should be helped to acquire and develop positive values while learning to make ethical decisions. Different ideas such as trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, reverent can become very concrete goals for young people.

    11. Conclusions The general finding from all the above discussion is that Values are social necessity since they are considered as standards that direct the behaviour of the individuals. If teaching novel at the university level is to lead to real learning and greater understanding of English language, the learner must at all stages be given deep insight and valid appreciation of the native life and its people. Through novel, instructors can develop a well-adjusted balanced individual who can take place in society and approach the social and cultural problems of his day intelligently.

    12. Finally When I break my values, I will feel: shame and guilty. If I maintain my values when tempted to break them, I will feel pride and victorious
