  1. NAMANGA MAASAI MISSION 2009-2013and onwards Namanga is a border town between Kenya and Tanzania, with a large number of Maasai inhabitants

  2. Co-operation • A few years ago we joined in with the activities of a local Tanzanian institute called Maasai Foundation. The foundation is dealing with the Christian education, schooling and taking care of Maasai orphans, but is alco concerned about the well-being of the whole Maasai community.

  3. School still needs finishing • the school building erected in 2009 still awaits for finishing touches, but education could still start up in January 2011. Apart from the orphans, other children also attend from the community, whose school fee contribues somewhat to the expenses.

  4. School and dormitories for the Maasai orphans • We are working on finalizing the school building and equipping the classrooms. We managed to install electricity to the building, but will need books and computers …

  5. Need for 2 dormitories • At present the orphans live in the home of the foundation’s director. However, according to latest regulations they have to stay in homes erected on the school compound. So now there is need for 1 for the boys, and another for the girls. Their situation will become more advantageous this way.

  6. Self-sustaining institution • This institution serves the spiritual and physical well-being of the children and the community. Our number one priority is to make this foundation self-sustaining. Having this in mind we must start the agricultural work without any further delay.

  7. There is a well, but no power cable • The foundation’s own well is located some 400 yards from the school building. In order to start agriculture, we need to lay power cables down to this well. Unfortunately all the trees planted so far dried out because of lack of water. Regardless of the well readily installed, neither teachers nor the children can get a drop of water on the schoool compound. • Meanwhile we managed to buy and lay the cable. See in our next slideshow, please.

  8. Building a Guest House • Building a Guest House is also among the plans. The house could accomodate and shelter the volunteers and visitors, but would also serve as an income generator. The town is not capable at all to satisfy the need for clean and cosy accomodations. This Gyest House is operated by a Canadian foundation in a small town nearby.

  9. Fence • Besides the many cores we also need to fence the compound of about 5 acres. Animals are just wondering freely everywhere and thus disturb land cultivation. In order for the safe education of the children, the school building needs to be fenced around, too.

  10. Join the Adventure! U2! • Because of the outstanding drought and poverty the circumstances are really tough here. We gladly accept any kind of help and offering. See the opportunities to join on later slides!

  11. Opportunities • Orphan program • Humanitarian adventure tour • Building works • Well drilling, water issues • Tribal outreach to help the remote groups • Medical assistance • Other social works, which are plentious

  13. There are an estimated 1 million Maasai in Kenya and Tanzania

  14. Regardless of the colourful culture, their life circumstances are tough

  15. A monotheistic, prayerful culture mixed with lots of superstitions • Food: blood, milk and meat • Poligamy • Female Genital cutting (no hygienic razor, etc.) • Total lack of agriculture at many places

  16. Other problems • Lack of water, lack of hygene • Man-centered culture. Women need more freedom and chances for development. • Low literacy

  17. GOALS • Because of serious droughts cows die. Agriculture has to be introduced. Knowledge and water are needed. Children will learn to work and enjoy the fruit of their toil! • Schooling will lead to a lot of changes in the family and community life. • Training schools, jobs to be created for the young • Hygene, cleanliness and order can treat the large-scale AIDS and orphan problems.

  18. Many are yearning for a way out of their misery

  19. … And no doubt they need a way of escape for sure!

  20. The irony is that the orphans cut off from their community are in a more advantageous situation: instead of hunger they can eat 3 meals a day. Our wish is to bring them up and train them so that as grown-ups they can contribute to the wellbeing of their own people and the whole country.

  21. Our ongoing works • Finishing the school building in Namanga orphanage • Planting of 1000 trees and starting up agricultural works (need fencing, electricity) • Building dormitories • to join a humanitarian tour or become a voulnteer or supporter in any ways, please apply at: www.blueministry.org

  22. Voluteers needed to finish the school and the ground!

  23. This kitchen needs some reshaping…

  24. Having said that all we must state that regardless of the great suffering in Africa life there is often more cheerful and lively than in the developed world. During a possible visit we can learn much of the marry hospitality of African people. Black and white are brought together through singing, the communial and natural lifestyle, talks and problems to be solved. It is a great refreshment and blessing to get to know and humbly ponder upon other cultures, to exchange thoughts and ideas, and to accept the other. And who will feel enriched after all? – Always the one who wanted to give, and this is especially true in case of those returning from Africa. In our slide show we deliberately avoided using pictures that are especially sorrowful and tragic. Life in Africa is delightful, but the continent is in great need of support!
