The Moon and Mars: good choices for colonies • They are both close enough that we can get to them “easily” • Although their temperatures and gravities are different from earth, we can survive in them with the right equipment • We know a lot about them (compared to other planets out there) so we can plan better what we would need to live on them
Time to mars • How long would it take to get to mars, stay a few weeks, and then come back? • About 2 and a half years!! • This is because we would have to wait until the earth and mars are closest together to fly between them. • The flight itself takes six months, but people on mars would have to wait one and a half years again before mars and earth are close together once more
Space stations • Instead of living on a planet, perhaps people could live on a space station…however, there are problems associated with that • In your notes list five problems you can think of for people living in a space station
