  1. Atoms Really big AND really small

  2. Really small • Pinheads have a diameter of about 1mm. About four million atoms could line up across the head of a pin. 4,000,000,000 atoms

  3. Really big • Thus the nuclei is about 0.01% of the atom as a whole. If the nucleus had a diameter equal to a pinhead, then the atom itself would have a diameter of some 10 meters. 10 meters 10 meters

  4. Really _________ • A bouillon cube would weigh about six billion kg (2.8 billion tons) if made out of atomic nuclei.

  5. Atoms are mostly ____________ • If an atomic nucleus was the diameter of a penny, the diameter of the atom would be two soccer fields.

  6. Your turn • Draw a rough sketch of an atom and describe how it is both big and small.
