  1. Sector model • Homer Hoyt, an economist, presented his sector model in 1939

Sector model • Hoyt suggested high-rent sector would expand : • Moves from its point of origin near the CBD, along established routes of travel, toward another nucleus of high-rent buildings • Will progress toward high ground or along waterfronts, when these areas are not used for industry • Will move along the route of fastest transportation

  3. Hong Kong Island • High-class residential land use is found in mid-Level • Middle class residential commercial landuse is found along the northern shore of HK Island from Causeway Bay , through north Point and Quarry Bay to Shau Kei wan

  4. Kowloon • Along Cheung Sha Wan Road and Lai Chi Kok Road, • A sector of old residential – industrial commercial land use is formed

  5. Sector model • Today, major transportation arteries are generally freeways • Surrounding areas are often low-rent districts • Contrary to Hoyt’s theory • In new towns
