  3. Urban Heat Islands • Transpiration is the process by which moisture is carried through plants from roots to small pores on the underside of leaves, where it changes to vapor and is released to the atmosphere. Transpiration is essentially evaporation of water from plant leaves.

Determine how much carbon dioxide a car contributes to the atmosphere each year. • Every gallon produces 5kg of carbon dioxide • Every year, the car travels 20,000km • Every gallon, the car travels 40km (40km/gal) • Find how many gallons the car uses each year: = 500 gallons • Find how much carbon is produced from 500 gallons: 500 gallons*5kg = 2500kg • B. & C. 2006 Annual value of carbon input: 7.8 Trillion kg/yr
