BOAST 4 Guidelines derived from BOA & BAPRAS Severe Open fractures of Tibia: Gustilo Anderson grade 3b or 3c • Guideline requires: • Early identification of severe open fractures of the tibia • Joint care from orthopaedic & plastic surgeons • Surgical wound debridement & operative fracture stabilisation within 24 hours • Definitive soft-tissue cover within 72 hours of injury • BOAST 4 report shows compliance with standard

  3. Chest Wall Injuries • Patients with chest wall injuries (fracture of rib/s and/or sternum) • Proportion of: • >3 ribs fractured • chest wall fixations • Attendances by pain team • Lists all injuries coded • Shows outcome

  4. Major Trauma Centre: Best Practice Tariff Year (19-20) • Additional payment made to Major Trauma Centres only • Based on Injury Severity • Level 1: Moderate Trauma (ISS>8): £1,500 • Level 2: Major Trauma (ISS>15): £3,000 • Conditional on ‘Best Practice’ targets being met & data correctly entered onto TARN database • BPT worth 51 million per annum • Last year 5 million in missed payments

BPT 19 reportAvailable to Major Trauma Centres : Includes Approved cases only • Showing submissions Approved by TARN with an ISS>8 • Users can cross check fields that may affect BPT payment • REDhighlights information currently resulting in no BPT payment. • Amber alerts a user to information that is affecting BPT payment level.

BPT (Pre April 2019) report Available to Major Trauma Centres : Includes Approved cases only • Showing submissions Approved by TARN with an ISS>8 • Users can cross check fields that may affect BPT payment • RED highlights information currently resulting in no BPT payment. • YELLOW alerts a user to information that is affecting BPT payment level. • BPT Awaiting PM report • Lists submissions where Post mortem is outstanding: potentially eligible for BPT.

  9. Transfers within 48 hours • Time of Repatriations from MTC • National Trauma Peer Review target is 48 hours from referral • Available to Network leads & nominated contacts

  10. ISS>15 not transferred from TU • ISS>15 submission that remained in Trauma Unit • Available to Network leads & nominated contacts • Data shown: • Mechanism • ISS • Dates
