  6. FAA Technical Assistance Programs • The FAA's technical assistance programs facilitate delivery of FAA experts and knowledge to foreign civil aviation authorities around the world.

  7. FAA Technical Assistance Programs (Cont.) Training: • Each year, FAA arranges training for international officials from more than 50 countries at the FAA Academy and at U.S. industry and academic institutions.

  9. FAA Technical Assistance Programs (Cont.) Flight Inspection: • FAA flight inspection crews inspect and calibrate navigational aids worldwide.

  10. FAA Technical Assistance Programs (Cont.) Equipment: • The FAA supplies other countries with new and used equipment common to the FAA National Airspace System.

  11. FAA Technical Assistance Programs (Cont.) Spare Parts and Repair Services: • Civil aviation authorities are encouraged to obtain spare parts and repair of equipment through FAA.

  12. In-country Technical Assistance FAA experts work with other countries to improve aviation safety. Experts are dispatched on short-term assignments to address specific problems and conduct surveys, studies, etc. Long-term assistance is provided by civil aviation assistance groups comprised of resident FAA advisers who assist in the development of a country's aviation system. The FAA has provided experts in the following areas: • Systems design and planning • Equipment installation and maintenance • Airworthiness maintenance • Type certification • Air traffic control procedures • Airport operations and standards

  13. International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) Program The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) established the IASA program through public policy in August of 1992.

  14. International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) Program FAA's program focuses on a country's ability, not the individual air carrier, to adhere to international standards and recommended practices. Types of Assistance: • IASA Technical Review • IASA Technical Assistance

  15. FAA Technical Assistance Programs How do we get started? Establish a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA): • MoA’s are arranged with foreign aviation authorities to exchange technical information and pursue joint technical projects, including R&D activities. • The recipient country generally reimburses the FAA for the cost of the technical assistance.

  16. Leadership Development Our contribution to the growth of leadership skills in foreign aviation professionals is an integral component of developing civil aviation organizations worldwide.

  17. International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) Each year, approximately 4,000 aviation professionals participate in the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP). Department of State assisted program.
