  2. About Us • The organisation was formed in 1985, and is based at Half Moon Lane, Gateshead with an additionalCentre in Byker, Newcastle • Provides a range of mental health support for women • All staff, volunteers and service users are women

  3. Services • Courses to improve mental health coping strategies • Ongoingsupport groups for women e.g. women with enduring mental health issues, older women and women from black and minority ethnic communities • A counselling service

  4. Services Cont’d • Therapeutic activities such as craft and singing • A wide range of support for women to progress e.g. education, training and employment • Opportunities for service user involvement • Participation in community forums and anti stigma work

  5. Accessing our Services • Open access – welcome sessions on a weekly basis • A worker sees each new woman on a one to one basis, to discuss the woman’s needs and outline available services • Referrals can be taken from any source including self referrals

  6. Advantages of a Women Only Space • Friendly and safe space • No fear – particularly if the service user has been the victim of abuse • All women as equal • Shared experiences of women and as women • Peer support

The Participants • 482 active service users in 13/14 which represents an increase on the previous year • 35% were first time service users. • 54% were Gateshead residents, 38% were Newcastle residents, 7% were from the surrounding areas and 1% were North Tyneside residents. • Needs expressed at first one to one • 81% experienced depression • 76% experienced anxiety • 78% were low in confidence • 58% experienced stress • 58% reported feeling Ionely • 57% reported having sleep problems • 30% disclosed having been experienced domestic abuse • 21% are referred by mental health services • Positive Feedback from service users & referrers
