  1. Beginning 3-D Art with Mrs. Graves Pinch Method: Nose Teapot “To most people who look at a mobile, it’s not more that a series of flat objects that move. To a few, though, it may be poetry.”

Visual Arts Standards: • 2.1 Solve a visual arts problem that involves the effective use of the elements of art and the principles of design. • 2.2 Prepare a portfolio of original two-and three-dimensional works of art that reflects refined craftsmanship and technical skills. • 2.5 Create an expressive composition, focusing on dominance and subordination.

  3. Vocabulary: • Pinch method = forming clay by rolling into a ball and using your hand to pinch the clay into a bowl shape

  4. Materials: White clay, clay tools, clear glaze

  5. Lesson Objectives: All students will exhibit mastery in… • Creating pinch pots • Modeling clay to create forms • Using score and slip to attach pieces of clay together

  6. Project Requirements: • Body of teapot is created by attaching two pinch pots together • Must be functional: • Has a working nose spout • Has a lid with a pull that sets snuggly in the teapot • Has a firmly attached handle that can support the weight of the teapot.

  7. Project Requirements: • Has other facial features (such as eyes, mouth, ears, glasses, beard, etc.) • Glazed with clear gloss after bisque firing

  8. Due Dates: • Page of face ideas in your sketchbook (worth 10 points): Tomorrow • Greenware complete: Friday 10/26 • Final project complete (worth 100 points, graded using 3-D Art Beginning Scoring Rubric): TBD
