Legal Food Initiative: Illinois State Bar Association's Philanthropic Campaign

In 2012-2013, the Illinois State Bar Association's Presidential Initiative led by Immediate Past President John E. Thies raised 3.8 million meals for regional food banks. This campaign aimed to engage lawyers and judges in fundraising efforts, showcasing the legal community's philanthropic spirit. With participation from 95 teams and 2,000 donors, the campaign concluded with a two-week competition. Key partners included Feeding Illinois, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, and Attorneys' Title Guaranty. The initiative involved the involvement of local, ethnic, and specialty bars, as well as the Illinois Judges Association. The LFI website provided tools for registration, donation procedures, and social media tips for marketing and outreach. Resources were available for team recruitment and engagement of the ISBA membership, with support from partner organizations. Overall, 3.8 million meals were raised for the 1.9 million hungry people in Illinois.
