  1. What are boils? Boils are: A skin infection Caused by an infection of the hair follicle Easily spread (around the body and also to other people)

  3. Preventing skin infections What should we do? Wash our hands regularly Don’t share towels, face clothes and bed linen Regularly wash these items in hot water Add garlic to your diet

  4. Treating boils Apply heat to the boil to bring it to a head. It is important that the boils are covered with a clean dressing until they are dry and healing. It may be necessary to see a doctor and have a course of antibiotics to treat the problem. A worker with boils (eg exposed on hands, face, neck or scalp) that are discharging must be excluded from work until the lesions have healed!
