  1. THIS PRESENTATION HAS BEEN RATED BY THE CLASSIFICATION AND RATING ADMINISTRATION CHEM 106 - Porterville College

  2. The Ramifications Of Chemical! By: Balsa EARTH DAY

  3. 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.(NIV) Genesis

  4. Air pollution occurs when the air contains substances in quantities that could harm the comfort or health of humans and animals, or could damage plants or materials. These substances are called air pollutants and can be either particles, liquids or gaseous in nature. Where does air pollution come from? Emissions from motor vehicles. Other pollution sources include business, industry, agriculture, fires, and household products.

  5. The invention and development of the automobile as primary mode of personal transportation required a parallel development of the fuels that would power the automobiles. The Chemistry and Thermodynamics of Fuels and the Decisions that Led to Worldwide Environmental Exposure to Toxic Lead (TEL) Compounds.

  6. The air we breathe is a mixture of gases and small solid and liquid particles. Some substances come from natural sources while others are caused by human activities such as our use of motor vehicles, domestic activities, industry and business.

  7. Hmm, what can we do? Present: * In the past three decades, the World Bank has financed over 100 hydroelectric power projects in 50 countries. * Much of the remaining hydro potential in the world exists in the developing countries of Africa and Asia. Future: · The theoretical size of the worldwide hydro power is about 4x greater than that which has been currently exploited. · The actual amount of electricity which will ever be generated will be much less than the theoretical potential of hydroelectric energy.

  8. Painful!

  9. In a conventional fuel cell, protons migrate through a steam membrane (left). In the Super Protonics membrane (right), protons hop through a dry crystal net. * The fuel cell will most likely play a central role in future energy systems. A large part of the fuel in a fuel cell converts to energy, which can power an electric motor. * Chemical energy transforms into electric energy in a fuel cell, through an electro-chemical process. Fuel cells have high operational reliability and low noise levels because the energy transformation process occurs without moving parts.

  10. Time is running out, let us all contribute. A little bit will help! Before it’s too late!!! We have good days. We have bad days. Our air, too, has its ups and downs. Over the years, though, the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District has made positive strides in improving our air quality, even with a jump in population growth. Still our air exceeds both the state and federal air quality standards for ozone and the state standard for particulate matter.
