  1. Help for when Your BACC is Against the Wall: Behavioral Academic and Career Counseling Senior System Manager: Tamina Stuber Junior System Manager: Melissa Ainslie Undergraduate Assistant: Austin Mifsud Supervisor: Dr. Richard Malott

  2. Seriously! I just want to chill and learn this behavioral stuff!!! Double GRRR!! What is with all of the presentations? GRRR!!!! Do we REALLY have to do this AGAIN???

  3. Ahhh… They grow up so fast!!! You are soooo funny! As juniors and seniors, BACC may be able to help you even more than before!!! Graduation is so close! Didn’t we get everything we could out of BACC already? Do my feet look like footballs?

  4. TA DAAAAA! As you may recall… • We provide Behavioral Academic and Career Counseling • We are a supplemental advisory system • BACC is supervised by Dr. Malott • And operated by BATS MA Students

  5. Graduation; scarier than you’d think • You can’t just pass the classes anymore! There are many things that can’t be put on the back burner…but the BACC burner perhaps…?  • Audits • Credit Hours • Plans post-graduation

  6. Did I mention the BACC Burner? • We can help you with those things! After all, these may be your last couple years of fun before the real world…why shouldn’t you take advantage of these things that make your life easier? • You’ll have to jump through hoops once you have a career or get into Graduate School; why should you have to jump just to get there?

  7. What jobs are available? • Regardless of what area you are interested in, we have info for you! • Industrial Organizational Psychology • Clinical Psychology • Counseling Psychology • Organizational Behavior Management • Forensic Psychology • Cognitive Psychology • And so many more!!!

  8. I’ve had jobs before, you think I don’t know how to get a job?!? • We aren’t just talking jobs though; we are talking a career. Something you could feasibly support yourself with. You will need… • References • Resumes • And a good idea of where to apply to; who’s hiring, who would make a good employer…and see, we got connections!

  9. Or you want to put off the real world for a bit (grad school); valid life choice! • In that case, you will need to know about… • Deadlines • Applications • Vitas • Letters of Recommendation • Taking the GRE

  10. Don’t be Scurred! • Just get ready to enjoy the company of your instructor outside of class! • Together, the two of you will fill out a wonderful form you may recognize as the ‘How to Achieve Your Goals’ form! • Yep; that’s the one!

  11. Quick Reminders • The 1st appointment is mandatory • If you would like another appointment, that is an available option! • You earn 20 participation points for having this appointment • However, you cannot use OAPs to opt out…not that you would! Because we are cool… see???

  12. Cool like that! No…really, we are cool!

  13. You will owe your GSI $5 on Friday You meet terms of performance contract You won’t owe your GSI $5 on Friday You fear owing your GSI $5 on Friday You meet terms of performance contract You don’t fear owing your GSI $5 on Friday And now we performance contract! • After you’ve decided on some goals, you and the MA student will put together a performance contract. It may look a little something like this: Which may end up looking like this:

  14. OAPs • Can be earned for… • Signing a performance contract (if you choose to do so) and completing the task • Having a follow up appointment (such as in reference to a signed performance contract). • Each of these actions will earn you 10 OAPs.

  15. But, even this is not without aversive control… • If you fail to show up for your appointment and you don’t call, you will lose 10 points. • You will also lose points for not fulfilling the terms of your performance contract.

  16. For those ‘self-starters’ • The reason these are mandatory is NOT because we think you are • Lazy • Incompetent • Lost without us • Stubborn • It’s just that this process is confusing (i.e. aversive), and without deadlines and a good guide, there is too much room for procrastination…and before you know it, you are 45 years old, unemployed, and camping out on mom and dad’s couch…

  17. So gear up and get ready! • There’s so much to do, and because we like you, and want you to do well, there’s help available! • GRE • Grad School Applications • Resumes • Letters of Recommendation • Being a productive member of society • Those are things that freaked me out in undergrad—so hopefully we can save you from some sleepless nights!

  18. So have an idea of your passions • And we will guide you in the right directions, whether you are interested in • Graduate School for… • Cognitive Psych, Behavior Analysis, Counseling Psych or something else • Or a Career and you need to know… • Where there are job opportunities, how to put together your resume, getting good references and so forth

  19. Questions? Comments? Thank you!
