  2. What are the parts of a Conclusion? • CLAIM • EVIDENCE • REASONING or….CER

  3. CLAIM • A statement about the solution to a problem • A response to a question • An answer to a problem

  4. EVIDENCE • Relevant data or facts that supports the claim • Observations that support the claim

  5. REASONING • Explains how the evidence is linked to the claim • Tells why the data, facts, or observations support the claim • Shows an understanding of the key concepts or BIG IDEAS

  6. What do you claim happened? My dog ran away. There’s a loose plank and a hole under the fence. My dog’s chain is broken. What evidence supports your claim? What reasons do you have for connecting that specific evidence to your claim? My dog is not on his chain where I left him. The hole under the fence is big enough for him to go through.

  7. Let’s Practice List some important vocabulary words from the Observation Fizzy Lab: Information Educated Guess Beaker Fiz Baking Soda Bubble Vinegar Observation Mix Inference

  8. Look at your I notice… I Wonder… Chart What claim can you make?

  9. What is the Evidence? Use the information from your I notice… table to support your claim.

  10. Explain your Reasoning • Show your understanding of the BIG IDEAS • Use as many of the vocabulary words from the chart as you can.

  11. Think & Write • Look at your I Wonder… questions. • Can you write a hypothesis for a new lab? • Write the hypothesis in this format. • (If you add…then…)
