  2. Introduction(just listen) • Mali recently begun to decline • Songhai had begun before this happened

  3. Songhai Appears(copy) • As Mali became strong, Songhai started • Songhai became rich with trade like Mali • Songhai became notably strong in the 1300s

  4. The Empire’s Beginnings(copy) • Empire became powerful, so Mali conquered it • Regained control • Leaders became Muslim • Berbers traded because they shared religion

  5. Empire’s Growth(copy) • Empire grew from trade • Sunni Ali, a leader, unified and enlarged empire • Conquered parts of Mali • Encouraged people to work together

  6. Conclusion(just listen) • As Sunni Ali died, his son took his place • People rebelled, but the Empire remained strong.
