  2. What makes up the molecule that makes up you! • DNA is made up of units called NUCLEOTIDES

  3. Nucleotides are made up of 3 parts: • 5-Carbon sugar called Deoxyribose • Phosphate Group • Nitrogenous Base

  4. Twisted Ladder • Those Nucleotides join together to form the shape that we are all familiar with • Deoxyribose and Phosphate Group make up the long, vertical portion of ladder • Nitrogenous Base makes up the steps of the ladder

  5. The Steps of the Ladder • What makes up the steps of the DNA ladder? • 4 different bases make up the nitrogenous base • Adenine (A) • Guanine (G) • Cytosine (C) • Thymine (T)

  6. Each base has a friend • Each horizontal ladder step is composed of 2 complimentary bases • A pairs up with T • C pairs up with G • T pairs up with A • G pairs up with C
