Members of CPBA’s two doctoral student associations are partnering with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) of Hampton Roads to assist the City of Franklin, Virginia and its business owners to address concerns resulting from the closure of the International Paper Plant. • MPA students and faculty team up for Habitat for Humanity • Marketing and communications students, under the direction of Michelle Carpenter (instructor of Marketing), are developing a communications and marketing strategy as part of the ODU/Hampton University’s Solar Decathlon team. The ODU/HU team was selected by the Department of Energy to participate in Solar Decathlon 2011 • Three teams of MBA students planned and implemented projects to benefit a non-profit organization of their choosing, based on the needs of the organization and the expertise of the students in the group. Projects included a campus-wide clothing drive, food drive at Hampton Coliseum, and a donation breakfast. • Business Doctoral Student Association conference in celebration of 20th anniversary of Business Administration PhD program • Student organizations sponsored Human Relations Workshop • Beta Alpha Psi students and advisor Randall Spurrier participated in BAP Community Service Day • BAP members donated 127 hours to Relay for Life, 85 hours to Girl Scouts (cookie audit) • MPAA raised funds for La Maison Fortune Orphanage • PAUP student member of the Governor’s Advisory Board for National and Community Service • PAUP student Director of Research and Policy for the Blue Star Families organization Student Service Learning
