  2. Outline Remote Controlled Lock • Customers • Benchmarking/Specifications • Concept Generation • Selection • Final Design

  3. Customers • Interviews & surveys • Majority had smartphones • Want good security and multi-functionality • Generally, willing to pay $50 at most • Security over Aesthetics

  4. Interview

  5. Benchmarking/specifications

  6. Benchmarking/Specifications (Worst) 1– 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 (Best) • Bluetooth Lock has best Ease of Use • Master Dial Lock has best Security and most Reliable • Flexible Lock has most Functionality (most versatile)

  7. Concept Generation • Broke up concept generation into all different components of a lock • For each component, we came up with several possibilities • We brainstormed: • Loop • Lock type • App and wireless features • Materials • Security

  8. Selection • Went over complete list of concepts and features, voting using the like/dislike technique • Came up with baseline list of features and materials • From there, made a Pugh chart to compare loop designs • Based on results and data collected from interviews/surveys, we decided on a combination between two designs. • Final design chosen because of its novelty

  9. Final Lock Design

  10. Final App Design

  11. Final Specifications • Our lock combines the best of all the locks we compared and the designs we came up with • Combined Bluetooth and Wifi connectivity • Simple to use, powerful software • Save a marker of the location in google maps with the press of a button • Check battery level • Turn On/Off remotely • Have lock emit sound to locate if lost • Solar panels for low maintenance • Solid Steel Body • Flexible but strong braided steel cord, compactly secured to the outside of the lock when not in use
