  1. Who are we? • APTLD (Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association) is an organization for ccTLD (country-code Top Level Domain) registries in Asia Pacific region. • originally established in 1998, and in 2003 legally established in Malaysia.

Objectives • To promote skills development and information exchange related to Internet domain names amongst members • To provide a forum to discuss policy matters affecting Internet domain name related entities • To act as an interface with Internet coordination bodies and other bodies involved in the Internet domain name operation

  4. backgorund • Four regional organizations: AFTLD, APTLD, CENTR, LACTLD • The objectives of all regional organizations are to promote and participate in the development of high standard of Internet Country Code Top-Level Domain Registries (ccTLDs) for the benefit of its members and the Internet. The organizations have their own regional focus.

  5. continue • APTLD will achieve its objectives through consensus building, coordination and collaboration; respecting cultural and historical variations amongst the ccTLDs and their Local Internet Communities. • APTLD is based on membership, and its activities are funded by membership fees.

  6. continue • Relationship with ICANN: An Interest in, but no commitment to ICANN • Most of us have some kind of relationship with ICANN • More are members of the ccNSO • Very few have contract with ICANN • Committed to Local mores • See APTLD as an Independent facilitator of experience of peers

What do we discuss together ? • Registries running models • Marketing and promotions, growing of registration • Relationship with Registrars • Engagement with ICANN: IDN; JPA; IANA function… • Governance of Internet • IDN( internationalized Domain Name) • Security: DDOS Attacks and DNSSEC • IPv6 in the ccTLDs • New GLTDs impact on ccTLDs

  15. Registration Policy All respondents applied first-come-first-serve policy for domain names registration. All replies said they do not require the domain name to correspond with the name of the domain name holder in any way. Over 90% of them said domain names registered are transferrable.

  16. Comments to ICANN • Comments on ICANN’s Discussion Draft: Affirmation Reviews • Comments on the Proposed Implementation Plan for Synchronised IDN ccTLDs • Comments on Draft Final Report on Policy Aspects Regarding Introduction of Single Character IDN TLDs

  17. IDN ccTLDs • APTLD is one of the major advocates: we have the biggest demand on IDN in our region • 24 out of 27 either delegated or under evaluation IDN ccTLDs are in our region • Closely follow-up on the development, e.g. IDN ccPDP, JIG IDN WG

  18. Inter-regional activities • Signed MOU with AFTLD, LACTLD and CENTR at ICANN Cartagena meeting at end of last year to collaborate by exchanging information related to the security of the Domain Name System, best practices etc. .

Regional activities • APTLD assisted organizing the AP Regional IGF in June 2010 in Hong Kong, • Very successful meeting, more than 200 attendees • Sponsored several Internet governance workshops for young people: APNG • assisting the Pacific IGF and ccTLD Workshop for New Caledonia, April 2011
