  3. The scenario states that quite a number of health and psychological problems arise from the widespread use of technology throughout the teenager’s everyday life. Teenagers use PortAll for all their learning needs, PlayAll for all their recreation, social media for their communication and robots for all their housework. All these technology affects the teenager's mental and physical well being after a long term of usage. • In what ways might we reduce the over usage of technology in everyday life so that all these psychological and health problems can be greatly minimized in the year 2040 and beyond?   5. The carnival will consist of three parts, the documentary, the campaign and lastly the fun fair. The documentary will be videos filmed by professional camera crews on leading psychologists on the harmful effects of over dependence on technology. • The videos will be on the cause, consequence and responses to over dependence on technology. The campaign will be advertisements on television and radio broadcasts and multimedia platform pop ups. This will raise awareness about the carnival. • Lastly, the fun fair will be held on the day(s) of the carnival itself. There will game booths, and sports booths to show that technology is not needed to have fun. This will be done by 2039. Carnival

We will develop a system to keep everyone under surveillance, making sure that every citizen will exercise regularly or else there will be penalty, or lesser incentives (provided that the system included a credit record to encourage citizens to exercise). • The system can work in a way that everyone will be given a card or the Ez-link card will be upgraded to serve multiple purposes, and that they will have to tap to record their participation in the sports. • As such, teenagers will be enforced to exercise regularly, which can help them to develop a healthy lifestyle and spend some time outside rather than facing things related to technology. It also tells them that apart from gaming, they can do many other things. This is will be done by 2048. The surveillance system

  7. Sports facilities will be made more accessible for the citizens (cheaper sports equipment, nearer gym etc). This can encourage more people to take up sports as it is not too long a distance from their homes, and hence taking up more of their time, thus, helping them to be able to get rid of their addiction to gaming. This is will be done by 2045. Convenience for sports

  8. “Interact day” will be held bimonthly, and the date will be put down by the government. Teenagers on that day must not touch computers or PlayAll or PortAll and go out with friends and families to play sports or just spend some time together. This will be done by 2043. • This will help to solve their over dependency on technology for fun and games through forcing them to live without it for a short period of time. Interact day

Theme parks in neighborhoods with new features like roller coasters on transparent tracks and “bubble seats” to attract people from their homes so they won’t spend too much time on technology at home. • Getting people to play outdoor activities is the best to keep them away from home. Teenagers nowadays like to play exciting games such as roller coasters, so I can believe that teenagers in the future will be brave to take on more challenges. • Thus, they will be occupied with outdoor activities instead of using technology at home. This will be done by 2048. Fun ever after

  16. Patrick Yen: • I think that I am the most irresponsible person in the group. All of my members completed their research and work on time but I did not and I also doubt my work is up to standard.  • Sometimes I even missed their calls and once the receiver on my house phone was not placed properly and my members tried to call me for two days but could not get through. I must really work on my responsibility and be a more responsible person in the future. Reflections

  17. Tan Chuan Xin: After doing this project, I found out more about future happenings and trends mainly. I know how hard it is to come up with problems and solutions that tackle a problem specifically, and now, I admire those who do it with ease. Researching is a key component in this project category, and it is not easy to come up with the relevant research that is necessary and can prove our point. Researching is now a very new thing to me, and I find that I actually do not know how to do proper research, but know I know how to do it properly. I am sure that this skill will come into handy when doing research for my other projects. I know now that there is a lot of interesting things that can be discovered in the future, and that the future holds no bounds. I would like to do this category again next year, except for the fact that I would be Sec 3 next year and be unable to join this category. As the pioneering batch of this category, I hope that my project will leave a legacy in this category, and be useful to future batches of futurists who chose this project. Reflections

  18. Koh Kah Xuan: • I feel that the project was extremely fulfilling with much more study into solutions that seem to be feasible or problems that seem to be insignificant. It was important we learnt to have research to back up on any statement we have made. It was difficult to find these evidences, hence, we had to find alternative ways to phrase our key words, or sometimes even abort the idea. • However, we got to understand more on the law of Singapore, regarding some existing policies. Also, we understood how some technology had worked, like micro-chips and robots. During the evaluation, we also had to make careful criteria to make sure that it is fair. Reflections

Shie Yu Hao: • After this few months of work on future trend, I find that it is very interesting to be brainstorming on creative solutions, this is when all of us come together and think of “crazy” ideas. This is where we bond together as we laugh and discuss together. After several meetings, I feel that we were more bonded than before as we try to understand each others’ flaws and being understanding towards each other. • In addition, research is the part that weighs most but it is what I hate the most, especially about future stuffs. We must squeeze our brain juice to think of how normal daily life now can relate to the future as creativity plays an important role here too. But glad to say, we pull through successfully in our research when we help each other by commenting what else do we lack for research. Reflections

  22. Ease in implementation is how easy the solution can be carried out. We chose this as one of our criteria as it is important to carry out a solution easily. It will take a lot lesser time to carry out an easy solution. If we took too much time, the problem may grow worse and may be beyond our abilities to solve them. Ease in implementation

  23. Set-up cost is the amount of money spent when implementing the solution. This criterion is important as it let us know if we are financially prepared to implement the solution. Set-up cost

  24. Revenue is how much money we will earn after the solution has come into effect. Revenue is important as we must know if we will suffer any losses after spending money to implement a solution. Revenue

  25. Set-up time the how long we will take to implement the solution. This criterion is affected by ease in implementation. It is important as if we take too much time to implement a solution, the problem may grow worse to a state where it is beyond our abilities to solve it. Set-up time

  26. Lasting time is how long the solution will be effective after it has come into effect. This is an important criterion as the solution must not only be effecting, but also long lasting or else we will be back with the same problem again in a very short well. Lasting time

  27. Effectiveness is how effective the solution is in solving the problem. For example, how much of the population do not experience the problem anymore. It is important because our goal is to reduce the percentage of population experiencing the problem. If a large percentage of population stop experiencing the problem, our goal is achieved. Effectiveness

  28. Attractiveness how likeable the solution is. This affects effectiveness. If the people do not like the solution, they will go against it and so the effectiveness of the solution will drop greatly. Attractiveness

  29. Popularity is how much of the population still like the solution after it has been implemented for a while. If the popularity of solution is very low, then the effectiveness of the solution will drop then. Popularity
