  3. Abdication of Napoleon • British defeat Napoleon, early 1814. • Freed up British Navy and troops to fight against the USA.

  4. Burning of D.C. • Aug.1814, British raid and burn towns. • Burned Wash. D.C. in retaliation for York, Canada.

  5. Fort McHenry • British bombarded the fort in the Baltimore, MD harbor the night of September 13, 1814. -Francis Scott Key witnesses battle. -Writes the “The Star-Spangled Banner”. -Becomes national anthem in 1931.

  6. Hartford Convention • Dec. 1814. • New England Federalist delegates from five states gather to discuss an end to the war. -Protested the war. -Threaten to secede (withdraw, break away) from the country.

  7. Battle of New Orleans • Jan. 1815 • Andrew Jackson defeats British force in New Orleans. -Two weeks after the end of the war.
