  3. iCampus course registration • Simplify and improve the process • Reduce the number of steps needed to register • Avoid repeating similar steps while registering for multiple courses • Help students save some time

  4. Financial aid • Applied via FAFSA website • iCampus: “My Financial Aid Status” link • Leads users to think that they can check their financial aid status, but this in fact directs them to the web link to apply for financial aid, if they haven't already done so. • iCampus Financial info tab • Can cause users to expect financial aid related information in that tab. • Proposal - Add a link on the iCampus saying “Apply for financial aid” to keep things clear.

  5. Online admission process via Welcome2ISU • Simplify and improve the existing process • Combine certain steps to reduce the number of screens that the user has to go through to complete the application

  6. How the personas and goals were developed? • Personas came from the synthesis of our interviews findings • Participants were mapped against key behavioral differences • Personas’ end goals are parallel to our overall project goals

  7. Persona 1 • Name: Marie Lacoste • Age: 25 • Occupation: Full-time international student, working on Masters in Psychology at ISU, 6 months into the program now. • Current status: Single • Interests: Reading, traveling, baking, has the latest technological gadgets, recently bought an iPhone and MAC laptop • Personality traits: Very organized in both her academic and personal life, likes to keep things simple • Goal: Wants to register for courses via iCampus in a systematic, non-repetitive and hassle-free manner

  8. Persona 2 • Name: Wilbur Adams • Age: 34 • Occupation: Full-time Security guard at the outlet mall in Tuscola, IL. Also a weekend warrior for Navy-reserve • Current status: Divorced, dating Diane Miller who is a full-time student at ISU • Interests: Fishing, golf, fan of Chicago Bears, enjoys learning tools and tricks of Internet from his son • Personality traits: Short on patience, gets frustrated when tasks take too much of his time • Goals: Apply to ISU online for the Spring 2010 semester , spend more time with Diane!

Persona 3 • Name: Jack Williams • Age: 19 • Occupation: Freshman at ISU, yet to chose major • Current status: Has a girl-friend • Interests: Theater, Music, Sports, Hanging out with friends, loves using Internet for gaming, chatting and sports news • Personality traits: Happy-go-lucky attitude towards life, wants to achieve maximum results with minimum efforts • Goals – Wants to apply for financial aid online without spending too much time filling out application, Wants to be the first in his family to earn a degree!

  10. Justifications of choices for personas • Each persona is a representative of a sample of the target user group. • Their goals give us a good sense for designing a user interface that is simple to use and is less time consuming.

  11. Why we chose 3 personas? • Basically to reflect the three areas of focus for our group. • Hence, the choice of two personas for current students and one persona for prospective student.
