  2. According to those who practice it Theatre A building where performances or movies happen. The stuff that happens there. The foundation of Theatre is Dramatic Literature. Dramatic Literature is unique in the sense that it is meant not just to be READ but to be SEEN Theater

  3. Introduction to Theatre Why we study it, and what it takes to practice the art form.

  4. What power does Theatre have? • Theatre can be the study of History. • Theatre can be a form of communication. • Theatre can be educational. • Theatre can be pure entertainment.

  5. Pair and Share • Get with a partner and brainstorm a list of: • Jobs in the Theatre

  6. What are the habits of mind of theatre practitioners? • Researching • Sourcing • Reconstructing • Contextualizing • Visualizing • Creating

  7. Researching • Investigating the cultural and/or historical aspects of a situation or a script. • This can include: • Historical Events • Clothing • Architecture • Societal Influences

  8. Sourcing • Evaluating the perspective of the playwright, and analyzing the intent of their work. • Why did they write the play? • What are they trying to say?

  9. Reconstructing • Adopting the mind set of a character. • Connecting to the mindset of the playwright.

  10. Contextualizing • Evaluating the play in regards to: • The time it was written • The time it is set • The time is to be performed

  11. Visualizing • Creating a mental image of the world created by the play.

  12. Creating • Crafting a tangible product from the vision.
