  1. 6 types of prayer in the Bible

  2. prayer: our Lifelineto god

  3. Prayer • We are supposed to pray always. “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing;in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 • -we talk to God / God talks to us • -Use our faith • -Be bold for God • The eyes of the Lord: “For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” 2 Chronicles 16:9

  4. Prayer • 6 types of prayer in the Bible • 1. The Prayer of Agreement (agreeing with someone) • 2. The Prayer of Faith (between you and God) • 3. The Prayer of Consecration and Dedication (His will) • 4. The Prayer of Praise and Worship (thankfulness to God) • 5. The Prayer of Intercession (praying for others) • 6. The Prayer of Binding and Loosing (taking authority)

  5. 1. The Prayer of Agreement • Key verse: Matthew 18:19, “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it will be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.” • We see that: Jesus introduced the prayer of agreement • The two must agree • Get someone to agree with you

  6. 2. The Prayer of Faith • This prayer is between you and God • Key verse: Mark 11:24, in which Jesus says, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” • “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Heb. 11:1 • “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

  7. 3. The Prayer of Consecration and Dedication • Luke 22:41-42, "And He [Jesus] was withdrawn from them [Peter, James and John] about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” • In this case, you pray that God's will would be done, when you don't know His will or don't know of an alternative path. • Sometimes, have two (or more) godly alternatives before you. • Believe me, He will let you know if you are taking the wrong fork in the road.

  8. 4. The Prayer of Praise and Worship • In this prayer, you’re not asking God to do something for you. • You’re just thanking Him for His many blessings and mercy. • In Luke 18:43, the blind man who was healed was described as “glorifying God.” • Look at the way Jesus prayed in John 11:41: "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me," referring to His previous prayer regarding Lazarus. • In the Lord's prayer, Jesus told His disciples, "'When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name'" (Luke 11:2). • Paul wrote to the Philippians: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”

  9. 5. The Prayer of Intercession • Two key verses here: • "I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you" (Phil. 1:3-4). • In Paul’s letter to the Ephesian's, he says, “I do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers.” • Here Paul prays regularly for the church at Ephesus. • He does not set himself in agreement with anyone. • So, this seems to be a good example of intercessory prayer.

  10. 6. The Prayer of Binding and Loosing • This prayer is found in Matthew 18:18, “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will beloosed in heaven.” • Some important info in Jesus' statement here: • 1st thing: We have authority here on this earth. Luke 9 • 2nd thing we notice is the direction of the action: • Things do not begin in heaven and come to Earth, but rather the action starts here on Earth. • Notice that it says, "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

  12. God says: do not give up • And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Ephesians 6:18 • Jesus told his disciples a parable to always pray and not faint. Luke 18:1 • Sign on church • Shortest prayer in the Bible • “Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:30 • “Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him.”
