  1. Pattern 1B By: Drew Featherston & Tommy Gavrel

  2. Description • For Pattern 1B, use one of the coordinating conjunctions. • You also use a semicolon to separate a subject from a verb. • Each part of this pattern must be able to stand on it’s own; otherwise it is only a fragment.

  3. Sentence Structure • S V; S V, and S V • S V, but S V; S V

  4. Tips • When writing a 1b sentence the comma before the conjunction is needed. • The order of the ; conjunction does not matter within the sentence. • Use this pattern when you have talked about similar ideas in several sentences. If you combine these ideas, you will have a single, more powerful sentence.

  5. Conjunctions • Nor • Or • But • And • So • Yet • For

  6. Lets go to the office; you can buy a drink and candy, and you can sit next • to Dwight and Michael. • Dwight does the selling for the company; he also plays video • games on his computer, and he likes top bug Jim and Pam.

  7. Examples 2 • Dwight and Michael do not always see eye to eye; • Michael is rude, and Dwight is stubborn. • Pam and Jim are in love; they are very happy together, • and they are engaged

  8. Practice! Find what’s wrong with the following sentences. • Pam is the secretary at Dunder Mifflin inc.; she has been there for five years and she is very good at her job. • Oscar and Ryan both enjoy their jobs they don’t like • Michael too much, but they deal with it.

  9. Michael is played by Steve Carrell; he is joined on the set by Rainn Wilson, John Krisinski who plays Jim. Steve Carrell has decided to not extend his contract with “The Office”, but they are attempting to renegotiate his deal, he will be missed

  10. Use FANBOYS!!!!!!!! or n d o r ut r e t o • If you have trouble remembering this, make up a sentence that you can remember. The dumber the sentence is the easier it will be to remember.
