Development of CEDAR POINT

In November 1995, Jackson County supervisors donated 224 acres for the expansion of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) at the University of Southern Mississippi. Between 1996 and 2002, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (DMR) Tidelands contributed $1,084,150 towards this initiative. In May 1999, the Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) Board authorized the development of a comprehensive master plan for the site. The project emphasizes enhancing research capabilities and promoting coastal studies.
