  1. SIMPLE MACHINES The student recognizes that forces of gravity, magnetism, and electricity operate simple machines. SC.C.2.2.1

  2. What is a Simple Machine? • Simple machines are tools that make work easier.  They have few or no moving parts.  These machines use energy to work. • There are six simple machines: • a lever • a pulley • a screw • a wheel and axle • a wedge • an inclined plane

  3. Simple Machines SIMPLE MACHINES Wheel and Axle Pulley Screw Wedge Lever Inclined Plane

  4. What Simple Machines are seen on a bicycle? Screws are all over the bike Inclined Plane Wheel and Axle Pulley Lever

  5. A Bike is a Compound Machine. • Screws are used to hold the pieces together. • The wheel of a bicycle is a wheel and axle. • The pedals are also examples of this simple machine. • The pedals are attached to a lever that turns a pulley. • The gear shifts and brake handles are levers.

  6. Identify the Simple Machine A simple machine that lessens the force needed to attach two or more things. SCREW A simple machine with a slanting surface that is used to make lifting easier. INCLINED PLANE A moveable inclined plane used to make splitting or separating an object easier. WEDGE

  7. Identify the Simple Machine A simple machine that has a bar that turns around a fulcrum, making lifting and moving easier. LEVER A rope or a chain wrapped around a wheel and axle used to make lifting easier. PULLEY A simple machine that has a wheel that turns around an axle used to make work easier. WHEEL & AXLE

  8. Identify the Simple Machine Lever Wedge

  9. Identify the Simple Machines Lever Screw
