  4. Groups • National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)—fight segregation by challenging Jim Crow laws in court. • Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) • Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) • Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC)

  5. Civil Disobedience • Sit-ins • Marches • Freedom Rides—organized by CORE to challenge segregated interstate travel

  6. Boycotts • Montgomery Bus Boycott • Boycotting merchants • Using Economic pressure to force change.

  7. Results • Civil Rights Act of 1964—Banned segregation in public places. • Leads to the next step of pushing for voting rights.
