  1. T.C. Knapp ElementaryMr. Boggs’ 3rd Grade ClassWeek of May 12th, 2014 • Math: In math this week, we will continue to work with 3-digit by 1-digit multiplication. We will also begin working with 4-digit by 1-digit multiplication and review division Lastly, an ice cream party was announced last week for those students who have mastered all of their multiplication facts. In order to have mastered their facts, students need to have completed their 2s through 9s. The ice cream party will take place the final week of school. A date will be announced. • Science/Social Studies: We will move back into science this week for our final unit covering the topic of soil. The students will discover the components of soil and the various layers of soil found within our earth. • Dear Families, • With only three weeks of school remaining, we will continue to focus on Common Core standards in the classroom to wrap up the conclusion of the school year. • Sincerely, Mr. Boggs • Reading This week in reading, we will begin a new selection entitled, Yonder Mountain – A Cherokee Legend. As your child reads this legend or an old story that people have told for many years, the students will look for: a character who does an important deed and a setting from very long ago.Our target skills and strategies of the week will focus on comparing and contrasting and finding a story’s message.Lastly, our phonics skill will focus on contractions with n’t, ‘d, and ‘ve.The students will have their test over this reading selection next week. • SpellingThe students will be given a new set of spelling words on Monday for Lesson 13. Please study these words throughout the week with your child. The students will have a test over these words next week.
