  1. Mini-Series—A Working Faith!Part 12-Humility is the Answer to Strife | James 4:1-6

  2. James 4:1-6 • Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

  3. James 4:1-6 • Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

  4. The InternalProblem—The Big “I” Isaiah 14:12ff | Genesis 3 The problem of “I” goes back to the first sin of creation (Isaiah 14:12ff) and the first sin of humanity (Genesis 3). We have a sinful, fallen spirit within us that longs to be #1 and at the heart of our strife is a desire for one or more parties to fulfill their desire for preeminence. At its core is a desire to be like God!

  5. The Vision Problem—The Big Beam Philippians 2:1-11 | Matthew 7:1-5 Every one of us looks at others with one of two types of magnifying glasses. Some of us look at others with a magnifying glass that highlights their warts, imperfections and sins, while others use their magnifying glass to highlight their beauty marks, potential and progression. Our sinful bent is to magnify the warts of others while magnifying our own beauty marks. James, Jesus and Paul remind us that we need to switch the wart magnifier on ourselves and the beauty magnifier on others!

  6. The Self-Esteem Problem—The Big Lie Luke 9:23; 14:26-27 | Romans 3:9-20 | Jeremiah 17:9 • Our modern culture has sold us a lie that we are good enough, we are smart enough, we are sufficient! But God speaks truth and reminds us that He is good, He is wise and He is the only sufficient one. Our worth and esteem is found not in our self, but in our God.

  7. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
