  1. CHAPTER II Review of Related Literature

  2. Definition • It is the systematic identification, location, and analysis of documents containing information related to the research problem.

  3. Functions • Provides justification for pursuing the specific study and yields insights as to how similar problematic situations were resolved in the past. • It could also provide new ideas and approaches which were not conceived previously by the investigator. • Studies cited may be relevant to the present investigation in purpose methodology, findings, conclusions or variables. • It provides findings and conclusions of past investigations which you may relate to your own findings and conclusion. • It gives you confidence because you will have on hand all construct related to your study.

  4. The basic features of this part are: • Studies, which are related in purpose, method or findings to your present study. • Summary statements of the studies being reviewed. The summary should show the transition from earlier or past studies and the relationship of previous studies to your present project problem. • Pertinent portion of relevant literature. The last name (s) of the author (s) followed by the year of publication in which the information appeared, should be enclosed in parenthesis and given at the end of the statement.

  5. TYPES • RESEARCH LITERATURE refers to published or unpublished reports of actual research studies done previously. • CONCEPTUAL LITERATURE pertains to articles or book written by authorities giving their opinions, experiences, theories or ideas of what is good and bad, desirable and undesirable within the problem area.

  6. Example • Related Studies • The researchers reviewed studies related to Polyester Resin, Asphalt and Concrete epoxy as well as Fiber glass. • Analysis of Resin Injection molding in molds with Pre - placed Fiber Mats. I: Permeability and Compressibility Measurements (LJ LEE - POLYMER COMPOSITES, 1991) • This study presents the characterization of fibrous reinforcement mats in resin injection molding. The fiber mat characterization involved determining the mat permeability and compressibility. Mold filling experiments were conducted using two or more different fiber types in the mat stack, which created transverse porosity, permeability, and compressibility variations. The effect of these variations was studied by taking flow pressure measurements and observing the progress of the flow front of a non-reactive fluid filling a clear acrylic mold that contained the reinforcement mat stack.

  7. CONCEPTUAL LITERATURE • Polyester Resin Filler is the term applied in the plastic industry to those materials made from polybasic acids and polyhydric alcohols, one of which contains C=C unsaturation. This permits cross-linking with other unsaturated materials to form a partially thermosetting product. • Originally, the principal unsaturated material used with the polyester resin was styrene. It served the dual purpose of solvent and reactive material. • All polymers made by condensation reactions between acids and hydroxyls are termed polyesters. Polyesterification is the reaction involved in the production of unsaturated polyester resin. • The following concepts about Polyester Resin Filler that are studied by the Researchers are from books of AMOCO chemical company “How To Process Better Coating Resins with AMOCO IPA and TMA” and “How Ingredients Influence Unsaturated Polyester Properties”

  8. SOURCE’S

  9. Zafra’s Palace • Library is usually the source of both conceptual and research literature. • A good tip for you to be ready to spend the whole day or even days in a library. • Start reviewing conceptual literature first since it is more readily available than research literature. • Theses and dissertations, as well as the abstract, are other sources of the literature.

  10. GROUP ACTIVITY • Start to research and gather some related studies concerning your problem that you are working. • Each member is required to give at least five different citations or related literature. • Group should come – up with the maximum of 20 and minimum of 15 related studies to be use for your chapter II. • Deadline of submission will be on Wednesday
