Background • Argument hall is a group support system, which is directed by the metasysthesis methodology, and with the purpose of solving complex problems(xusen,qian et.al.，1990；DeSanctis G R et.,al.，1987) 。 • Group communication with the computer-based environment, information has a large number, the member’s idea is various, the evidence source is board, usually exceed member’s ability to process information. • In the argument process, the subject and decision purpose usually ate out of focus, it is easy to cause “knowledge fault” and “information overload” (Jinle, Sun, Pengzhu, zhang，2001；); MIS Center,Antai College of Economics&Management,SJTU

Background • Traditional group argument, only by the way of individual memory, text record, sound record and so on, not depend on the tools of multi-media and web visualization,lots of information and their relation are lack of visual expression, group members are easy to submerge into the great number information； • Meanwhile, argument process can’t divert with the members’ purpose, individual has large limit about information grasp, understand, memory and apply, it is difficult to form group focus in the argument process; MIS Center,Antai College of Economics&Management,SJTU

  16. Background • In practice, time and the consensus are two important factor. Argument information visualization increase the effect of group communication, assist to avoid the diverge to problem, enrich the methods of research and cognize means to dig out information, and reduce the time to cognize the decision problems(J Larkin, H Simon, 1987); promote group to learn each other and obtain consensus; otherwise, it is a useful way to relax “information overload”。 MIS Center,Antai College of Economics&Management,SJTU

Background • Visualization provide a efficiency data structure, it gives a well support to overcome information overload, cognize burden, increase group output and innovation ability; visualization can assist to shorten group cognitive time of decision problems, promote members to learn each other to obtain consensus, then explode group’s visualize thought, and give a effect information sharing mode and information statistic function; MIS Center,Antai College of Economics&Management,SJTU

The Theory Foundation • Cognitive process, cognitive stimulation and interference • To test the affection of shared information and evaluated views on idea generation and mental processes of group members, it is necessary to discuss the mental processes. • Nijstad, Stroebe and Lodewijkx (2002) developed a theory of idea generation called SIAM • SIAM:it is a practice apply of SAM(search of associative memory model of memory retrieval) in the ideas produce(Raaijmakers and Shiffrin); • SIAM treat the ideas produce as a repeat search process of memory MIS Center,Antai College of Economics&Management,SJTU

  19. SLAM • Ideas can’t produce without foundation，it must depend on the known knowledge（cf. Amabile,1983） • SIAM:Short term memory（STM) and long term memory（LTM) • STM:consciousness activity，capability is limited; • LTM：capability is unlimited,knowledge storeage。Knowledge divide into images or character combination with the strong link and semantic correlative;these images joint the associations，levels and categories into a abundant network。Assume that semantic correlative images have a strong link (Collins & Loftus, 1975)； • At one time, only one image can be enabled MIS Center,Antai College of Economics&Management,SJTU
