Discussion on pre-aligning beamline components in the Middle East synchrotron project reveals challenges such as limited expert personnel, coordination issues with international experts, and the need for specialized knowledge. Additional concerns include the thickness of hutches, control system decisions, and equipment testing procedures. Suggestions are made for addressing manpower shortages and finding local expertise.

Synchrotron-light for Experimental Scienceand Applicationsin the Middle East For Discussion
Pre-alignment of the beamline components: • Missing of the beamlineOptics scientist (Eng.) • Limited number of personal in alignment (only one person) • Non-qualified personal. Have to get experts from abroad • Difficulties to set a working plan. Need to coordinate with alignment person at SESAME and experts coming from abroad. • Priority was/is given to booster for the last 2 visits of the experts from SOLEIL. • Missing guiding points on the optical material for alignment. This forces us to follow the SOLEIL solution by aligning the optics for a zero level (optical alignment) after installing the optics components in the beamline (pre-alignment)
Others • Calculation of the thickness of the hutches in particular the roof of the experimental hutch which will be located under the offices. • Use of the donated hutches from Lure and Darsbury: • Need to know the thicknesses (to be measured) • A detailed drawing is needed taking in consideration the dimensions of the existing walls pieces • Need more man power • Find a local company with some expertise. Companies may not accept touse existing walls.
Others • Control system of the beamlines • XPS control system was the recommendation of the virtual group but ….. • Not decided yet what control system SESAME should use. Even after a previous decision together with the virtual control group. • Limitation in man power and non has experience in beamlines control • Priority given to the booster and storage ring • Tests on the BASEMA Mirrors and DCM were done by an electronic and instrumentation Eng. Using the windows software that comes with the XPS system • Implementation of the EPICS still not done
Others • Equipped Chemical lab. For sample preparation • Access to conventional techniques for sample characterization (ICP-MS, SEM, convent. XRD, etc.) • Access to journals (at least Elsevier)
