  3. What is Dancehall? • A form of dance • Originally started in the 1970s • Founded by King Jammy • Often a popular riddim is taken and used by various artists WAYNE SMITH UNDER MI SLENG TENG - YouTube

  4. What influenced Dancehall? • It popularised in Kingston, Jamaica. • The island was hit by a financial crisis in the 90s • Increase in unemployment and crime • Most young people looked to Dancehall as an escape • A backlash against reggae
