  2. Opener... • Were you ever so hungry that when you began to smell the food, you could almost taste it in your mouth...in fact, your mouth began to water?

  3. Review • Last week... • Entered the New Testament • Foretelling of the birth of John (the Baptist) • Malachi 3:1 & Luke 1:13 • Foretelling of the birth of Jesus - the Promised Redeemer • Malachi 3:1 & Luke 1:31

  4. Introduction • God always fulfills his promises! • No matter how impossible • No matter how difficult • No matter how long it takes • Luke 1:57 • “When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son.” • God made good on his promise to provide a son for Zachariah and Elizabeth.

  5. Other Promises... • Warning to Adam & Eve • Warning to people of Noah’s day • Promises to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob • Promises to Joseph through dreams • Promise to pass over Israel • Promise to bring Israel to Canaan • Warnings to Israel through Jugdes and Prophets

Zachariah’s Song... • Luke 1:67-79 • His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied: • "Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel because he has come and has redeemed his people. • He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),

Zachariah’s Song... • Luke 1:67-79 • salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us—to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham: • to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

  8. Zachariah’s Song... • Luke 1:67-79 • And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,

  10. Zachariah’s Song... • Zachariah knew that God was going to fulfill his promise of the Redeemer soon. • He also knew this “horn” was from David’s line. Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel because he has come and has redeemed his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago) ~Luke 1:68-70

  12. Zachariah’s Song... • Remember the 5 promises God made to Abraham? • Genesis 12:3, “...all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham: ~Luke 1:72-73

  13. Zachariah’s Song... • Zachariah prophesied the work of the Redeemer • These are the blessings to all people through Abraham to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days ~Luke 1:74-75

  14. Zachariah’s Song... • Zachariah speaks through the Holy Spirit about the role of his own son surrounding the coming Redeemer. And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins ~Luke 1:76-77

  15. God - The Great Deliverer • Who delivered Noah and his family? • Who delivered Isaac from death and provided the lamb in his place? • Who delivered Lot from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah? • Who delivered Joseph from prison? • Who delivered Israel from Egypt?

  16. Zachariah’s Song... • Zachariah calls the Redeemer the “rising sun from heaven.” ...the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace. ~Luke 1:78-79

  19. Zachariah’s Song • Praising God • Stating who the Redeemer is • Remembering the Covenant to Abraham • Telling what the Redeemer will do • Recalling what John (his son) will do

  20. John the Baptist • Luke 1:80 • And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the desert until he appeared publicly to Israel.

  21. Conclusion • We have been learning that God is One who always does what He promises. • God is the only one that can deliver man from their sins • Imagine...

  22. Opener... • False prophecies... • “The Spirit tells me - Fidel Castro will die - in the 90's. Oooh my! Some will try to kill him and they will not succeed.” (Castro is still alive today!) • “The Lord also tells me to tell you in the mid 90's, about '94-'95, no later than that, God will destroy the homosexual community of America.” (obviously not true) • God’s prophets are never wrong!
