AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH SYSTEM in TURKEY • Agricultural Research is considered essentially as a public duty which is mainly covered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) in Turkey • MARAimplements and coordinates agricultural R&D activities through General Directorate of Agricultural Research (GDAR) • GDAR has a- 84 year- experience in funding and coordinatingresearch and development projects in the field of agriculture and food • The TurkishScientific and Technological Research Council (TUBITAK) is the other important research funding body Methodological Workshop, Rome 03-04 February, 2009

AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH SYSTEM in TURKEY • A Research Master Plan (RMP) was prepared in 1995, and has been implemented since 1996 • In the RMP 15 Areas of Research Opportunity (ARO) and Research Programmes(RP)within AROshave been determined • AROs and RPs are being revised and prioritised in every - 5 -year • Research funds are allocated according to prioritised AROs and RPs Methodological Workshop, Rome 03-04 February, 2009
