The BIG PICTURE • OCLC is moving toward offering its content on a single discovery platform – WorldCat.org • This WorldCat.org platform will give libraries a variety of options for accessing materials they license and offer to patrons. • On July 1, OCLC will make available all the content licensed from OCLC through the WorldCat.org platform and user interface. This means that libraries can access all the content they license from OCLC, FirstSearch databases, NetLibrary econtent, Archive Grid and CAMIO through the WorldCat.org user interface.

Objective & Timeframe Use the WorldCat.org platform and UI as the end user platform for accessing content licensed from OCLC Make all OCLC Licensed Content searchable via the platform & UI by July 1, 2009 Library Benefits Easier end user access to authoritative databases and content No additional fee to use this new option – it’s a free choice Increase value for content subscription fee as user usage increases for the same license fee No training needed Minimal change needed to make available - copy & paste an URL Existing platform access to content stays available Licensed Content Platform Project Database Searching Using the WorldCat.org UI

Objective Use the WorldCat.org platform and UI as the end user platform for accessing content licensed from OCLC What Libraries will see WorldCat.org search box access to databases – maybe a new tab or two Simple URL to get to specific database(s) WorldCat.org UI enhancements to advanced search to handle database searching Ability to create database groups – of any size No limit multi-database searching Links to full text access when available, as before Saved searches, email results, A bit beyond just the search box Licensed Content Platform Project Database Searching Using the WorldCat.org UI

Objective Use the WorldCat.org platform and UI as the end user platform for accessing content licensed from OCLC What librarians will notice NOT all FirstSearch or NetLibrary features available – a staff interface project will be defined later No forced conversion to this new option - existing platforms will still be available NO Login/Password access – all IP autho based access No additional fees to provide this option to users Notes to OCLC Licensed Content Platform Project Database Searching Using the WorldCat.org UI

Growth of WorldCat Local with member libraries • Started taking subscriptions beyond the pilot libraries in January of 2008 • 25 sites live to the public • 16 more sites going live in the next 4 to 6 weeks • Another 52 currently being implemented March through July • Getting new subscriptions each month

  13. Ongoing improvements to WorldCat Local service • 5 rounds of usability testing in the last 12 months • Many small user experience changes as a result • Next large change is the redesign of the Detailed Record

  14. Pro-active roll out of WorldCat Local to member libraries • Able to determine library system, logos, colors and most common circulation statuses by machine interaction • Loading this data to the WorldCat Registry automatically • Able to deliver functioning WorldCat Local to the library for them to try out and complete the configuration
