  1. Preparing for Destiny A few things you can do to get your data ready!

  2. Preparing for Destiny Remember… you don’t have to do any of these things… do the easy things first and if you have time, move on to the more time consuming things.

  3. Weed… • This is a great time to weed those items that are not used, are out of date, or are just not circulating. • Run the Circulations Statistics Report to find materials that haven’t circulated.

  4. Weed… Run the Collection Age by Call Number Report.

  5. Complete and Clean…delete missing copies • Go to Cataloging, Edit, Global Delete – Missing Copies. Chose the years to delete by… and delete! Do this again after an inventory (if you do one…)

  6. Complete and Clean… delete lost copies • Go to Cataloging, Edit, Global Delete – Lost Copies. You can choose to NOT delete copies with transactions.

  7. Complete and Clean… delete titles without copies • Go to Cataloging, Edit, Global Delete. Chose Titles without copies. You don’t need to move these titles into Destiny!

  8. Complete and Clean… Alliance Recon…. • Run a Recon and “process the misses”. This is a great way to clean your data. In your Follett folder, click on the Alliance Plus application. Chose Alliance Plus for your data source..

  9. Complete and Clean… Alliance Recon…. • Chose an option.. Replace brief records, or full records, then click on proceed. Click “Select” on the next screen to start…

  10. Complete and Clean… Alliance Recon…. • The process will start and may take a long time to run.. Do it as you are leaving for the day. When it is done it will have created matches and will have replaced brief or all records, and it will have a list of “misses”. Go back to the Alliance Plus application, click on the “Misses” button.

  11. Complete and Clean… Alliance Recon…. • Click on “Examine close matches”, then proceed. On the next screen click on “Select”…

  12. Complete and Clean… Alliance Recon…. • The resulting screen will show a record that Alliance couldn’t match, and the closest “hit” in the Alliance database. If you want to you can replace your record with the Alliance record… it becomes a “hit” and the program goes on to the next record.

  13. Complete and Clean… Patron Data • Go to Patron Maintenance – Edit – Global Delete. You can delete by grad year, status… the point it to delete patrons you no longer need in the database.

  14. Complete and Clean… Patron Data • Also, delete the pseudo patrons you may have created…. You know who you are…

  15. Complete and Clean… Other Stuff… • This is a good time to look at your Circulation Types, Categories, Call Numbers, Loan Periods… you may want to create some standardization across the district (or maybe not…), but it is a good time to review these and move to Destiny only the things you want.
