  5. Music Option students will be able to choose amongst Strings, piano, brass and woodwind instruments – around colleges in Malta and Gozo For a more detailed information re the instrument taught in school, it is advised to ask the Head of school or music teacher in the respective schools.

  6. What’s special about the pianoforte? It’s a diverse instrument: can play any style of music (classical, jazz, pop, rock etc.) It’s polyphonic: you can play more than one note at a time It can be played as a solo instrument, for accompaniment and also in ensembles One can express his/her emotions when playing and/or composing. The piano is famous for his soft (piano) and loud (forte) notes.

  8. String instruments produces sound by means of vibrating strings three most common techniques are plucking, bowing and striking.  tuned by varying the strings' tension because adjusting length

  9. Woodwind instruments produces sound when the player blows air against a reed, causing the air to vibrate flutes produce sound when air is blown across an edge

  10. Brass instruments Can play very loud Valves and slide to change notes Flared out bells on the end of the instrument Made of brass tubing

  11. Where can I play with my instruments? Orchestras Brass bands/wind bands Jazz bands Churches TV shows Pop/Rock groups etc

  12. Who can choose Music? Although this course starts from the very beginning in Form 1, those students who have a basic music education can still apply to join since the teacher follows individual programmes catering for the needs of the students.

Assessment Summative Assessment: • End of Form 1: level grade 1 • End of Form 2: level grades 2 and 3 • End of Form 3: level grade 4 • End of Form 4: level grade 5 • End of Form 5: level grade 6 50% Theory and Music Appreciation Exam 50% Practical Exam Formative Assessment: Two recitals per year
