  1. Definition of Virtual Network Topology Manager (VNTM) for PCE-based Inter-Layer MPLS and GMPLS Traffic Engineeringdraft-oki-pce-vntm-def-00.txt July 13, 2006 Eiji Oki (NTT) Jean-Louis Le Roux (France Telecom) Adrian Farrel (Old Dog Consulting)

  2. Background • Virtual Network Topology (VNT) needs to be controlled and managed in cooperation with inter-layer path computation. • VNTM appears in a PCE-VNTM cooperation model for inter-layer path control (draft-ietf-pce-inter-layer-frwk-01). • VNTM is considered as a functional element. • Definition of Virtual Network Topology Manager (VNTM) is required. • for use in the PCE context • but not to provide a full framework and definition for VNT Manager. (response to Dimitri’ comments on the list.)

  3. Draft overview • Cooperation model between PCE and VNTM for Inter-Layer Path Control • VNT Management • Functions of VNT Manager

  4. PCE-VNTM cooperation model • PCE performs inter-layer path computation. • VNTM controls lower-layer path setup. 2 VNT Manager PCE Mono-layer path: H1-H2-H4-H5 6 1 7 5 3 Egress High-layer network Ingress 8 H5 H1 H2 H3 H4 Lower-layer network L1 L2 L3 4

  5. PCE-VNTM cooperation model (cont’d) • Extend the basic PCE-VNTM cooperation model to the case of multiple PCEs. • PCE-Hi and PCE-Lo have each layer’s TE topology, respectively. 2 3 VNT Manager PCE-Hi PCE-Lo 8 4 1 9 7 5 High-layer network (MPLS network) Egress Ingress 10 H5 H1 H2 H3 H4 Lower-layer network (GMPLS network) L1 L2 L3 6

  6. Functions of VNT Manager • Lower-layer LSP Setup • Advertisement of the VNT to the Higher Layer • Policy Control

  7. Next step… • Request for feedback • Continue discussion on VNTM functions. • Can this become a WG document?
