  4. Helpful strategies • Subjects must have both similarities and differences • Stay focused- Don’t just list characteristics- explain significance • Strong thesis- specific points • Organization- • One side at a time • Point by point • transitions

  5. Example and discussion • Page 367 “the Ugly Truth About Beauty” • Focus on the thesis and Cause/effect examples as well as his method of organization.

  6. Essay practice- Choose a topic • A “how to” guide for studying • A two career family versus a one career family • Two approaches to parenting • bilingual services • Socialized medicine

  7. Start writing! • Basic outline! • Introduction and body paragraphs by the end of the hour. • Be prepared to peer edit tomorrow!
